Robyn's Fetish Challenge #151 use green

                                                           Inside of card.

Hello, Today at Robyn's Fetish our challenge is to use green. Our sponsor this week is The Cutting Cafe. I am using "four leaf clover" cutting file. It has several different formats. I used the pdf file and fussy cute the image out.
The winner gets 3 sets of files from The Cutting Cafe store. You can find it here http://www.thecuttingcafe.typepad.com/

I printed the different layers off in 3 shades of green plus the front in a St Patrick's print from Create With TLC. Then i cut out the layers and glued them together except the darkest green. Next place the opened card on wax paper and outline the inside of the card with glue and glitter. Scotch Quick Dry glue and Recollections Citron glitter was used. When this side is dry turn it over and do the front of the card. Let dry. Once dry add the darkest green layer to the back of the card. It is a shadow layer. Now fold the card carefully to make sure the glitter does not crack in the center.

This file comes with 2 sentiments. I made the one for the inside of the card. Then cut out a slightly larger green circle to go behind it. This is glued down using a strong glue.
The other sentiment I used a dark green circle behind it. Then punched 2 holes to make it into a button. Then using Glossy Accents I covered the button being careful not to cover the holes. When dry I threaded Twine through the holes and tied a bow. Then pop dotted the button to the front of the card.

Thanks for dropping by. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Edwina

“Using a Napkin to Create your own Designer Cardstock and Embellishments”

Supplies needed:

Choose dies and punches to use. These are what we used.

Cardstock for base of cards
Scissors, paper trimmer, Scotch quick dry glue, ATG adhesive runner, ruler, scoreboard, pencil, pearls-( I used iridescent pearls from Miriam’s Crafting Supplies), Copics, Gelly Roll pens, Glitter glue, White flocking

Set up your work station. It is best to use a kitchen counter or smooth board.  Place your folded bag on the counter. Select your napkins.  Plug in your iron and set the temperature to the hottest setting on the iron before the steam setting. It is best to use a dry iron. Turn the iron away from you.

Open the folded paper bag. Place your cardstock inside the folded paper bag.

Place your plastic wrap on the cardstock covering it completely. If using 12” x 12” cardstock, you will need to tear a small piece and overlap it with the other piece by just a little.

Separate your napkin. Pull back gently, making sure you get down to the colored section of your napkin.

Continue to pull gently until you have the white layers removed.  You can either throw the white layers away or save to make tissue flowers another time.

This shows the 3 layers of the napkin.

Here is the colored layer of the napkin showing the backside of it.

Place the napkin with the brightest side facing up on the plastic wrap.  Make sure the plastic stays in place.

Slowly cover the napkin, plastic wrap, and cardstock layer with the other half of the bag. Hold down the napkin as you gently lay it down. Make sure the corners of the napkin do not come up.

Now you are ready to iron the napkin and cardstock.

Start in the right corner at the top and work over. Return to the right slightly, over lapping the section already done and go across again.

Keep doing this as you go down the page.  I found it helps if you count to 5 each time you place your iron in a spot. Once you have covered the whole page, iron over it all about 3 times like ironing a shirt. (Depending on your iron it may take less or more time to iron the layers.)

Gently peel back the paper bag.  If the napkin and cardstock are not stuck together, then iron it a little more. If the napkin tears a little re-iron that spot and try taking the bag off again.

Now that the top layer of the bag is removed, you can lift a corner of the bottom. Gently pull up.

Here is how it will look. All excess will be trimmed off before using.  You can do this with scissors or a guillotine paper trimmer.

Before you iron another piece, pull up any leftover plastic wrap. It comes up really easy. Make sure the bag is clean. It will ruin your napkin cardstock if you leave it. These photos show it is easy to do.

Here are several napkin cardstock sheets trimmed and ready to use.

Now decide what card bases and tag shapes you want to use and cut and fold them. These are some of the tag and card base shapes I am using.

Cut out the napkin cardstock to cover your cards and tags. Adhere the napkin cardstock using ATG adhesive runner to the card and tag base.

Now punch out your embellishments using dies or punches.
These 2 photos show all the die cuts and punched items made with the napkin cardstock. It is best to make sure the metal cutting part of the die or punch goes against the white cardstock backing.  If your napkin tears, keep it. You will find a use for it. You can remove the rest of the napkin from it and color the die cut or punched item.

Now choose and print your digis. Here are all the Robyn’s Fetish Easter digis I printed off to use. I flipped the lily so I could use it facing both ways. The digi above is the flipped one.
Chose a medium or mixed media to color your digis.

Here are the Copic makers and Gelly Roll pens I am using to color the digis.
Gelly Roll Pens- Stardust- clear, purple, yellow, and rose, Metallics- pink, green, blue, silver, gold, Gelly Roll purple.
Copics –Reds- R20, R22, R24, R29, R56, R89, Yellows- Y06, Y15, Y17, Y21, Y23,YR21, YR23, YR24, Oranges- YR01, YR02, YR04, YR07, YR09, Greens- G03, G05, G07, G94, G99, YG000, YG01, YG03, YG05, YG06, YG61, YG63, YG67, YG91, YG93, YG95, YG97, YG99, Blues- B000, B01, B02, B04, B05, B21, B23, B24, B26, B28, BG000, BG01, BG03, BG05, BG10, BG11, BG13, BG15, purples- V01, V04, V06, V09, BV01, BV02, BV04, BV08, Pinks- RV000, RV00, RV02, RV04, RV06, RV09, RV10, RV11, RV13, RV21, RV23, Browns- E000, E00, E01, E02, E04, E13, E15, E17, E31, E33, E37, E41, E43, E44, E47, E49, E57, E59, E95, W1, W3, W5, W7, W10, grays/blacks- C1, C3, C5, C7, C10.

Add flocking and glitter. Let dry while cutting out the other digis.  Now that they are colored, cut out your digis.

These are the ones I added flocking and glitter to.  Now you are ready to assemble your cards.

Here are some cards using the Napkin cardstock, die cuts and punched out embellishments.

The purple rectangle is ribbon. It is a bookmark with napkin die cuts. The rest are tags.

These 2 cards show that you can make very special cards with the napkin cardstock. The card on the left is a double gatefold card and the one on the right is a tri-shutter card.

Notes:
Any embellishment will work.  Glues need to be thicker and quick dry. The Zig pens do not work with this technique.
The guillotine cutter is best. If you have a paper trimmer with the tiny blade, turn the paper over so the cardstock back is facing you. It will cut fine then. If the napkin is facing up, it will tear.
When using punches and dies, make sure the design is not too complicated or delicate. It will tear the napkin. I found Nestabilities and Sizzix work great and so do Martha Steward and Recollections. If the design is simple it should punch out just fine. Put the metal cutting part against the cardstock backing.
Using Cricut does not work. It tears the napkin.

I hope you feel inspired to make your own Napkin cardstock and embellishments.

I saw this idea on Split Coast Stampers. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/feltedcardstock/ how to make felted cardstock. This is my interpretation of it.
Thank you for joining me for this tutorial.
